Definitions and samples

  • compress (v.) to press something into a smaller space

– Firmly compress the soil in the pot so that the plant is secure.

  • structure (n.) something constructed, such as a building

– Would an architect assemble a structure without a good foundation?

  • qualifications (n.) the education, experience, and other abilities or skills that make you able to do a certain job or other activity

– He left school without any qualifications.

  • grade (n.) a particular level of quality that a product, material etc has

– The best grades of tea are expensive.

  • internship (n.) a period of time spent doing a job as part of becoming qualified to do it

– Jane has a summer internship at a local TV station.
