Definitions and samples

  • visible (adj.) able to be seen

– the ship was barely visible through the dense fog.

  • expensive (adj.) costing a lot of money.

– Amanda’s expensive dress created a great deal of excitement at the party.

  • discount (n. & v. & adj.) a lowering in the amount of money you have to pay for an item

– The final product may be sold at a discount, but it keeps the factories working.

  • encounter (verb & noun) a meeting, especially one that happens by chance; to meet someone unexpectedly

– When you encounter people who are different from you, don’t judge them by how they look or act.

  • significant (adj.) important or noticeable; having a special meaning

– Naming newborn children is always a very meaningful and significant issue for a family.
