Definitions and samples
- sneer (v. & n.) to smile in a mean, mocking, or sarcastic way
– The wrestlers sneer at each other across the ring before the match begins.
- similar (adj.) of the same kind in appearance, character, or quantity, without being identical
– You can also get more information by comparing figures for similar companies.
- summary (n.) a brief statement of the main points of something
– The following day, read the summary before you start your 15 minutes of reading.
- usage (n.) the action of using something or the fact of being used
– Among the study’s many other findings, women and smokers had significantly lower rates of drug usage.
- vertical (adj.) pointing up in a line that forms an angle of 90° with a flat surface
– In newspapers, the layout of the columns is vertical, while the rows run across the page horizontally.
